In acknowledging receipt of your letter
No. 773 of the 4th. instant, I have the honour to forward you by order of His Excellency the Acting Governor of Macao the enclosed copy of a notice by the Superintendent of Opium in this Colony as published in the "Boletim Official" of this date.
His Excellency directa me to ask you that
the exportation to Macao of morphine, cocaine and compounds of opium be not permitted by the Hongkong Government when an export- -er does not produce either of the 2 licences referred to in the notice.
His Excellency thinks it unnecessary to com- -municate to you confidentially on the subject of the movements of morphine. There shall, therefore, be published monthly in the Statistical Section of the "Boletim Official' of Macao the im- -port and export movements of morphine, cocaine and compounds of opium from which full information can be obtained on the subject.
His Excellency further directs me to thank
the Hongkong Government for its willing c-operation for the better regulation of the trade in these drugs.
Health and Fraternity.
The Colonial Secretary,
Hongkong.
(Sd.) Manuel F. da Rocha,
Acting Secretary-General.
